City's largest education recruitment fair returns to Guildhall

Portsmouth's largest recruitment event for jobs in education returns to Guildhall

After the success of last year's event, the city's largest recruitment fair for jobs in education returns to Portsmouth Guildhall on Monday 26 February from 10am - 2pm.

The Teach Portsmouth Jobs and Opportunities Fair welcomes 24 exhibitors from across the education sector who will be promoting a range of employment, volunteering and training opportunities.

Last year, over 200 people attended the event, with people going on to support their schools in different roles. Feedback showed that more information on teaching was required, with the introduction of teacher training providers this year.

Councillor Suzy Horton, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Education at Portsmouth City Council said:

Councillor Suzy Horton encourages people to look at their options in education

"Its vitally important organisations have the people they need to support the learning of children and young people.

"The recruitment fair brings together employers and training providers under one roof, to guide people into the right jobs that suit them.

"No matter your interests, I would encourage you to explore your options and see what a job in a school or college could look like for you."

HSDC has been announced as the official sponsor for this year's event, renewing their partnership, after supporting the Teach Portsmouth Awards in 2023. Richard Barlow, deputy head teacher at HSDC, welcomed the news. Richard said:

Richard Barlow reaffirms the need for qualified professionals to support pupils in schools and colleges

"We're really pleased to be supporting this event as the headline sponsor. This reaffirms our commitment to helping schools recruit the very best people they need to thrive.

"We know that having the right professionals for any child or young person, can improve their life chances. We are unwavering in this belief and look forward to meeting people who are looking to start a career in the classroom."

Those who attend can watch presentations inside the Opportunities Room on trending topics including how to become a teaching assistant, apprenticeships and how to get a job in a school or college.

Attendees can also 'dip their toe in the water' and sign up to taster sessions with participating schools and colleges. The scheme supports people who lack the experience or confidence to apply straight away.

The event is designed to give people the broadest range of jobs and opportunities available in the city's schools and colleges, acting as a first step towards a career in education.
