Milestones achieved as Teach Portsmouth Awards enter new phase

New milestones reached in the Teach Portsmouth Awards 2025

Portsmouth's beloved awards ceremony for the education sector is back at the Guildhall on Thursday 12 June 2025.

This year, the Teach Portsmouth Awards has hit some important milestones, including breaking a new record, finalising nominations, and planning a brand new celebration event.

Recognising Portsmouth's education superstars

Michelle Chadwick won the people's choice award in 2023

In December, Teach Portsmouth kicked off nominations for the People's Choice Award. The News as the category sponsor, provided coverage that highlighted the significance of being nominated, sharing inspiring stories from the 2023 shortlist to encourage more nominations.

This special category lets the community recognise school and college staff who go above and beyond. It's the only award where the public can nominate, and this year, we received over 100 nominations—a new record!

After Christmas, nominations opened for 11 other categories, allowing schools and colleges to nominate their colleagues.

These categories celebrate everything from early career teachers to dedicated volunteers, reflecting the diverse nature of education in our city. Nominations for these categories closed on 14 February 2025.

The Teach Portsmouth team is now busy collating nominations and seeking consent from nominees. Once consent is given, the shortlisting panel will meet in April to review the entries.

The People's Choice Award gives Portsmouth residents a chance to nominate someone who has made a difference in their children's lives.

To celebrate breaking a new record for nominations, we're hosting a special event at Boathouse 4 on Thursday 24 April from 4pm to 5:30pm.

The Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, Councillor Jason Fazackarley, and Mike Stoneman, deputy director, education at Portsmouth City Council, will host the event.

Nominees will enjoy afternoon tea and receive a certificate of achievement, showcasing the vital role school and college staff play in our communities.

Welcoming new sponsors

Humly and Comserv join the line-up of silver sponsors

The Teach Portsmouth Awards rely on the support of local organisations. Alongside our gold sponsors—University of Portsmouth, City of Portsmouth College, HSDC, and Salterns Academy Trust, we're thrilled to welcome new silver sponsors, Humly and Comserv.

These organisations join the University of Chichester Academy Trust, Homestart, The News, and Nation Radio.

Humly (formerly Simply Supply) is sponsoring the Unsung Hero Award. They support schools and colleges with agency staff.

Comserv, which works closely with Portsmouth City Council, is sponsoring the Community Award. They provide responsive repairs and maintenance solutions to local authorities and housing associations.
