Meet the sponsor: City of Portsmouth College
As we continue our exciting countdown to the Teach Portsmouth Awards 2022 we're introducing the valued sponsors who have made the event possible.
In today's article we hear from Emily Pountney, Vice Principal for Young People's Academic Learning at City of Portsmouth College, this year's sponsor of the inclusion and diversity award.
Could you tell us about what you do and your connection to education?
I am the Vice Principal for Young People's Academic Learning at the newly formed City of Portsmouth College (previously Portsmouth College & Highbury College).
I have worked in post-16 education for more than 20 years, teaching and leading in both academic and vocational qualifications. In addition, I proudly support Portsmouth's wider education sector, having been a governor in local schools, a member of the PEP School Leadership and Effectiveness Board and involved in developing the digital strategy for Portsmouth schools. What do the Teach Portsmouth Awards mean to you/organisation?
The Teach Portsmouth Awards are a fantastic way to recognise and celebrate the truly inspirational teachers and support staff who transform lives in our amazing city. I speak for all at City of Portsmouth College when I say we are thrilled to be a part of this marvellous event.
What are you looking forward to from the awards ceremony?
I look forward to discovering the phenomenal lengths my educational colleagues go to support learners of all ages and backgrounds, particularly in the exceptional circumstances of the last two years.
What special message do you have for Portsmouth's teachers, support teams and leaders?
Together we transform lives and in turn build a more prosperous future for the communities we serve – but more importantly, we have fun doing it. Whatever the world throws at us, pandemic included, I am so proud of the collective resilience the education sector has demonstrated, always ensuring our students are at the heart of everything we do.
