Portsmouth's educators unite to inspire next generation of trainee teachers

A webinar hosted by Councillor Suzy Horton welcomed 26 people on Zoom who were interested in becoming a teacher in Portsmouth.

Held on Wednesday 23 October 2024, Love to Teach: Routes into Training introduced two early career teachers who shared their experiences from the classroom. Four training providers presented information on their courses to help demystify people's next steps.

Teach Portsmouth has long championed the waterfront city as a place that has outstanding teacher training provision and schools who will support people during their placements. The webinar offered attendees the chance to learn about entry requirements, funding and the application process.

Councillor Suzy Horton, Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Education at Portsmouth City Council said:

"It was a pleasure to host Teach Portsmouth's latest webinar as part of their Love to Teach initiative. Teaching is such a rewarding profession but taking that first step can be confusing as there is so much information out there.

"The webinar presented the essentials when it comes to becoming a teacher and invited those who have gone through the process to share their top tips. Training providers imparted information on school-based and university-based training options too."
